- Description
-
From popular media to casual conversations, the crime of stalking is consistently minimized and misrepresented. Oftentimes, stalking behaviors are shown as romantic — depicting unwanted persistence as passionate devotion. This portrayal not only distorts public understanding of stalking but also reinforces harmful myths that can obscure the very real dangers of these behaviors, particularly within the context of intimate partner violence. This session examines different ways that stalking is misconstrued and normalized and the impacts of this normalization, explores the intersection of stalking and intimate partner violence, and offers practical strategies, tools, and resources for how to combat this misinformation.
