Vera Institute of Justice

Summary

The Vera Institute of Justice (Vera) provides training and technical assistance to increase the capacity and desire of OVW grantees to effectively respond to violence against people with disabilities and Deaf people by designing and implementing a complementary set of training opportunities and technical assistance resources. Using a diverse and coordinated set of training and technical assistance strategies, the Center works to: (1) increase awareness of the prevalence and dynamics of abuse of people with disabilities and Deaf people among policymakers and practitioners in the fields of criminal justice, disabilities, and victim services; (2) enhance the capacity of these practitioners to provide accessible, welcoming, and inclusive services to people with disabilities and Deaf people; and (3) strengthen the ability of other OVW–funded technical assistance providers to provide assistance that is accessible to and inclusive of the needs of professionals with disabilities and Deaf professionals in our field.
