Striving to reach new audiences and transform social norms, we train professionals such as doctors, nurses, judges, and athletic coaches on improving responses to violence and abuse. We also work with advocates, policymakers, and others to build sustainable community leadership and educate people everywhere about the importance of respect and healthy relationships. Our vision is a future without violence that provides education, safety, justice, and hope.

Building Collaborative Responses to Trafficked Victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

Summary

Through the Building Collaborative Response to Trafficked Victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (Collaborative Responses TA), Futures Without Violence provides technical assistance to assist OVW grantees in improving response and identification of domestic violence (DV) and sexual assault (SA) victims who may also be human trafficking victims. Collaborative Responses TA focuses on promoting the formation and enhancement of multi–disciplinary collaborative teams as an effective strategy to address the complex challenges faced by trafficked DV and SA victims. The technical assistance is comprised of webinars, training institutes, individualized technical assistance. Training Institute learning objectives include: a) Strengthen multi–disciplinary collaborative strategies in responding to youth and adult survivors of trafficking with domestic violence and sexual assault experiences. b) Define and clarify professional and organizational roles and responsibilities in responding to survivors of trafficking. c) Identify the ways human trafficking can intersect with domestic violence, and sexual violence. d) Provide a survivor–centered and trauma–informed collaborative response. e) Create an action plan to develop and implement multidisciplinary support to address human trafficking in your community.

Enhancing Judicial Skills in Abuse in Later Life Cases

I–LED Continuation (Institute for Leadership in Education Development)

Summary

Futures Without Violence provides specialized training and technical assistance to all OVW grantees through the Institute for Leadership in Education Development (I–LED). I–LED goals are to (1) improve the relevance and effectiveness of training/ education programs supported by OVW, and (2) enhance the capacity of OVW grantees to design and deliver well–organized, highly–interactive training/education for their constituents. To achieve its goals and objectives, the I–LED project has developed a series of workshops for OVW grantees. The Effective Program and Curriculum Development Workshop (2.5 days) focuses in great detail on the process of designing a program and creating a program or curriculum outline. The Faculty Development Workshop (2.5 days) outlines the process for planning a program in the context of learning how to facilitate education/training programs effectively. The Effective Facilitation Skills Workshop (2 days) focuses on effective skills to prepare for and conduct facilitation of small and large meetings (excluding training). An additional workshop being developed will focus on planning and implementing distance learning through electronic means. I–LED helps education and training providers develop the most relevant programs for their constituents, incorporating innovative adult education practices. All workshops include practice performing the tasks on which the programs focus.
