Sexual Assault Justice Education Project
Summary
VRLC's Sexual Assault Justice Education Project provides training, technical assistance, mentoring, resources, and individual and programmatic consultation to OVW–funded lawyers. VRLC provides information on how to identify and respond to sexual assault survivors' comprehensive legal needs, including privacy, education, safety, employment, housing, immigration, economic security, and criminal justice advocacy. Informed by best practices developed through direct representation of sexual assault survivors, VRLC small group, state–specific, and national trainings and resources provide a foundation for engaging in civil legal advocacy. VRLC attorneys use workshops, webinars, and web–based training to help LAV– and STOP–funded lawyers better understand non–intimate partner sexual assault, develop the skills they need to conduct survivor–centered, holistic legal intake, and identify and pursue legal solutions for survivors' needs. VRLC also provides one–on–one support and guidance to agencies developing or expanding LAV projects, individual case consultation, and resources, tools, and materials to help providers best meet the needs of sexual assault survivors.
