Interpretation Technical Assistance and Resource Center (ITARC)

​The Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence operates the ITARC which provides TA and training on language access rights and laws, interpretation, and interpreters, and tools and resources. The issues ITARC provides TA and training on include: knowing the Federal and state laws and policies on language access in civil and criminal courts; meeting the needs of culturally diverse victims/survivors with limited English proficiency; improving language access policies and practices in organizations and systems; understanding the roles and responsibilities of advocates and systems personnel at various points of contact; identifying model programs and practices for interpretation services; training and qualifying standards for court interpretation, interpreting for victims and survivors, and vicarious trauma ; and finding and working with interpreters. The tools and resources provided by the ITARC include: demographics and census data; glossaries and dictionaries; guidelines and standards; interpretation for deaf and hard of hearing; language access laws and plans; language identification; model court interpreter legislation; manuals, models, training curricula; technologies for interpretation; translated materials; translation; and web-based trainings.
