DESCRIPTION:Violence against Native women remains a significant public safe
 ty issue. According to the U.S. Department of the Interior- Indian Affairs
  Office\, more than 1.5 million American Indian and Alaska Native women ha
 ve experienced violence in their lifetime. Tribal law enforcement officers
  report persistent challenges in identifying and responding appropriately 
 to victims\, navigating victim reluctance to come forward\, and accessing 
 adequate victim service resources. To address these challenges\, the Natio
 nal Criminal Justice Training Center in partnership with the Tribal Law an
 d Policy Institute developed the Tribal Law Enforcement Victim Services Ac
 ademy.\n\nThe Tribal Law Enforcement Victim Services Academy is designed t
 o:\n<ul>\n <li>Equip new and current law enforcement officers serving Trib
 al communities</li>\n <li>Build foundational knowledge for effective victi
 m support</li>\n <li>Develop practical\, real-world skills for responding 
 to crime victims</li>\n <li>Improve on-scene performance</li>\n</ul>\nThe
  <strong>Tribal Law Enforcement Victim Services Academy</strong> is a <
 em>16-week virtual training</em> designed to equip new and current law en
 forcement officers working in Tribal communities with the foundational kno
 wledge and practical skills needed to support victims of crime using a cul
 turally grounded\, trauma-informed\, and victim-centered approach.\n\nPart
 icipants will gain the tools and resources needed to strengthen safety\, u
 phold Tribal sovereignty\, and enhance justice for victims of domestic vio
 lence\, dating violence\, sexual assault\, human trafficking\, and stalkin
 g.\n\n<strong>Time commitment for the Academy is up to 2.5 hours per week.
 </strong> To be approved for this Academy\, you must receive approval fro
 m your supervisor for this dedicated commitment. Your approving authority 
 information is collected during the registration process for follow-up pur
 poses. Please expect to participate in LIVE online instructor-led lectures
  held each week\, as well as discussion boards\, and independent study.
