SUMMARY:Should They Stay or Should They Go? Helping Domestic Violence Survi
 vors with Interstate Cases
DESCRIPTION:Have domestic violence survivors ever asked you if they can lea
ve the state with their children?  Have you ever worked with survivors wh
o have fled to your state with their children for safety?  Do you know wh
at to do when a court in one state has entered a custody order and a court
in another state has entered a protection order about the same children?
The LRC will be offering a webinar on basic interstate custody issues.  T
his webinar will provide participants with an overview of the various fede
ral and state laws that govern interstate custody cases. It is designed fo
r attorneys\, victim advocates\, and other community partners who wish to
understand the basic framework of how these laws fit together. Case scenar
ios will be used to demonstrate how practitioners can help survivors addre
ss the economic\, safety and legal issues involved when they cross state o
r tribal lines to flee abuse. Participants will have an opportunity to ask
  questions during the presentation.\n
