SUMMARY:Lunch &#038\; Learn for Nevada Judges: Tribal and Rural Perspective
 s on Protection Orders
DESCRIPTION:Join BWJP’s National Center on Protection Orders and Full Fai
th & Credit (NCPOFFC) and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Cour
t Judges (NCJFCJ) for a special Lunch and Learn session focused on the cri
tical role of protection orders in safeguarding individuals across Nevada\
, with a spotlight on the needs and perspectives of rural and Tribal commu
nities. Nevada’s rural and Tribal regions face distinct and often under-
recognized challenges in the implementation and enforcement of protection
orders. From gaps in registry access to inconsistent enforcement practices
and limited recognition of victim rights\, these systemic issues directly
impact the effectiveness of court-issued protections.\nJudge Kendra Berts
chy of the Reno Justice Court and Kelly Stoner of the Tribal Law and Polic
y Institute will share on-the-ground insights into how these challenges ar
e playing out in local communities\, and what judges can do to strengthen
consistency\, efficiency\, and adherence to protection orders in their jur
isdictions. This session is designed to foster greater understanding of th
e legal\, procedural\, and practical barriers that impact vulnerable popul
ations\, particularly Native and rural survivors\, and identify opportunit
ies for improving judicial response and coordination.\nThis project was su
pported by Grant No. 15JOVW-23-GK-05133-MUMU and Grant No. 15JOVW-23-GK-05
166- MUMU awarded by the Office on Violence Against Women\, U.S. Departmen
