STRENGTHENING & ESTABLISHING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE FATALITY REVIEW TEAMS (DVFRT) IN RURAL COMMUNITIES
- Description
-
Rural communities face unique challenges in responding to domestic violence and domestic violence fatalities. Domestic Violence Fatality Review Teams (DVFRTs) offer a powerful, community-based strategy to better understand these deaths and identify meaningful prevention opportunities. This webinar will explore how rural communities can strengthen or establish DVFRTs that are culturally responsive, survivor-centered, and effective in preventing future homicides. Participants will learn about the Domestic Violence Fatality Review Teams: Ensuring Culturally Specific Responses Project and how its framework can support multidisciplinary teams in identifying systemic gaps, improving coordination, and centering the lived realities of survivors—particularly those from historically underserved communities.
Through discussion and practical guidance, this session will highlight the importance of culturally specific responses in fatality review processes and offer strategies to overcome common barriers in rural areas. Attendees will leave with actionable tools to build, enhance, and sustain DVFRTs that reflect the strengths, needs, and cultures of their communities.
